Devlog 05: Production Sprint 1 - Week 2


1. Introduction

This week the team focussed on serval things such as Coding, Bird Enemy, level design and rigging. In this devlog we'll go over what we have done. 

2. Bird Enemy

Some concept sketches for the enemy bird were made. First some silhouette sketches go get out a good and fitting general shape and we favored some out and made some more detailed sketches. We chose for the sketch in the middle. The enemy bird is kept simple since it is not as large on screen as the main character but still fitting to the overall skating theme of our game, that is why is has a cool cap. For the swag. In the next steps the chosen sketch was translated into a 3D model and got unwrapped, finished for being rigged and animated later and then be tested.


3. Rigging

This week we also started rigging, Nicolas provided a proxy mesh for Arthur to start rigging. He has done so except for the skinning part, that will be done next week when the final character model is finished. Sarah provided the mesh of the bird as seen above. He has also rigged this and skinned it all together. Arthur will be working on animations next week.



4. Character Design

Nicolas started working on making our main character more readable by adjusting their proportions and experimenting with different looks. A proxy mesh with workable topology was handed to Arthur for him to start creating the final rig as seen above.



5. Level Design

The artists also started to create some first level ideas. From all the bundle sketches made in the previous weeks some blocks are put together to one complete level to see what could work and what seems fun. Those will be translated into 3D and then playtested in the engine to see if the movement feels smooth and fun.




6. Game Elements

Apart from putting together the level prototypes, artists have also started planning, designing assets that will be implemented into the game. Having started to create the first visual prototypes for our assets we will assure a smooth transition towards the production phase of the project.

7. Programming

The Programmers made the overal start of the production such as the basic movement mechanic and jumping. Also several "World Buffs" have been added. The BouncePad which bounces the player of it. And the SpeedPad that gives the player a sudden burst of movement speed so the player can go up ramp or loopings.
